There is so much that could be said, but I will start with the fact that every time I see someone driving my initial reaction is, "why is there no one in the driver's seat?!" Who knew it would be so exceptionally odd to everything in reverse.
The flight was tolerable, but most importantly it's over now. There were two girls sitting in front of me that were also interning and we stuck together after baggage claim and customs to wait for the bus. It was nice because I got to meet some people. It was lame because we waited for four hours in the cold (doors kept opening and letting in the outside air---yeah, it's mega windy today). At some point I noticed a nice American looking girl talking on the phone alone and looking upset. After consulting with my fellow interns we decided to ask her if she was with us. She was and was very happy to have met some fellow travelers. Our little group slowly grew into a nice large group, there were probably 20ish+ when it came time to leave. There are students from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Georgia, California, Arizona, Texas and probably other places, but those are the states that come to mind. There are only two of us from Texas, Stephanie and I are living in the same unit.
My room is like a dorm, but nicer. It's small, but the furniture and appliances are in good condition and I have my own bedroom and bathroom. Four rooms share a kitchen and living area. It's nice to leave the window open. I have some pictures, but I'm much too lazy to insert them now.
The biggest hurdle is the fact that the bed is hard as a rock--- I consider myself camping tonight--tomorrow I will go buy a mattress pad and some towels........
Daddy, Em, and Jess just came to see my room and then we walked around some and ate at McDonalds.... thrilling. It's very nice to get to see my family some. It is going to be difficult to connect with the other interns because we are scattered all over the place. There is an orientation tomorrow and I need to get their phone numbers and building/room placement.
I miss the television, but it is wonderful to have my computer with pictures, internet, music, etc.
I started rereading A Tale of Two Cities on the plane--now it's time to read and rest.
More to come,
Betty
